the things i'll tell my son

Zach and I were talking yesterday, while shopping for Liam, about completely random things and it got me thinking about all the things I'll tell him (and his younger sibling, be it E or K), which I'll preface with...

"When I was young... "

Have you ever thought about that? Or wondered what else we'll add to our list?
Here's a few we already know he'll find unbelievable.

  • When I was young, we wondered what miracle product would replace CDs.
  • When I was young, I had to flip my cassette over to hear the rest of the album.
  • When I was young, school busses were un-air conditioned and uncomfortable.
  • When I was young, there was no such thing as a cell phone family plan.
  • When I was young, each household was lucky if they had 1 computer.
  • When I was young, handwriting mattered.
  • When I was young, they taught me cursive writing in school.
  • When I was young, there wasn't a Starbucks on every corner.
  • When I was young, school aged children didn't drink coffee.
  • When I was young, a telephone had a cord and couldn't simultaneously take photos and tweet.
  • When I was young, bubble lights were the "cool" thing on the Christmas tree-not LEDs.
  • When I was young, cartoons didn't suck.
  • When I was young, American Girl catalogues only had 3 dolls in them.
  • When I was young, children's programming didn't involve bong smoking, hot pant wearing brats.
  • When I was young, the hot Christmas present wasn't electronic.
  • When I was young, I had to know how to spell because I didn't have spell check.
  • When I was young, Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego were the coolest computer games.
  • When I was young, movie ratings meant something.

Wow.

Now I feel ancient.

All of these are SO TRUE! Particularly loved the ones about kids drinking coffee, sucky cartoons, American Girls, and cursive! My goodness, my cursive was terrible in school (still is, actually) and the teachers made it seem like bad cursive=no graduation, no job, no future--might as well give up now. Yikes!
