Happy March Madness!
Well, of course, we're sad that the Aggies got beat by UCONN in the NCAAM tournament, but we're still enjoying watching the guys play, and today the women are playing and they're really making a good showing. Naturally, our ladies are a 2 seed- which is extremely exciting. We, Zach and I, love Coach Blair. It was nice to watch our men play against the Huskies, though, because the commentators were nice and pointed out that we're in a rebuilding year and they couldn't say enough about Coach Turgeon. It's very exciting. I am not a big basketball fan, but I love March Madness- I really am happy to watch any college sport. My husband has given me the bug and I love it. I rarely watch the NFL, I'll flip past the NBA and with the Astros being so horrible, and the Aggies being such a good baseball team, I'd rather watch NCAA baseball too!
Well, this past week has been a long one. I would imagine that goes without saying. It was nice to get to see so much of my parent's family, it's just horrible that it had to be under such circumstances. I got to spend a lot of time with my maternal grandparents- the baby's last set of Great-Grandparents. They're very excited, my Nana loves little boys. The most horrible thing, though, happens up in Kansas. I couldn't drive out to the burial because it was so far away and my OB told me not to. So I got to be the "house sitter." The churches up there literally have to appoint someone to go and sit at the deceased's house during the funeral service, the viewing and the burial because people have been monitoring obituaries and robbing people's houses when nobody is there. How sad is that? So much for having respect for the dead.
Of course, I was in a bubble in Kansas, so I didn't hear about Natasha Richardson's death. That's so sad! I loved, loved, loved her in the remake of The Parent Trap- she was so cute. And of course, I remember her from Fat Man and Little Boy, and I watch a fair bit of Masterpiece Theater on PBS (make fun if you like, but you see some amazing actors in wonderful, classic literature roles) and she was in a TV version of Suddenly, Last Summer with Maggie Smith (you know, Professor McGonagall (sp?) and Wendy from Hook). Suddenly, Last Summer was originally made with Katharine Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor... the story is God-awful, the long and short of it is that Hepburn/Smith's character is trying to buy a lobotomy for Richardson/Taylor's character, who witnessed the murder of the former's son. Yeah. Happy stuff. But it was sad to hear that Richardson passed- Zach and I are such huge, huge fans of Liam Neeson (that's LIAM) and we feel for him... I love him as an actor- he's so amazing. From Kingdom of Heaven to Love Actually, The Phantom Menace to Schindler's List- the guy is insane awesome.
In closing, I'd like to point out to President Obama that we beat BYU, thank you, and handily. And I'm glad I advised my dad to remember his 12-5 upset and he agreed to pick Duke over texas.
